The site I picked for Unit 1: Method of Investigation is the Food Hall located in Harrods. This space is very intriguing to me because it has transformed grocery shopping, something so basic, to a luxurious experience. It is a space that prioritizes aesthetic over functionality. Each arrangement and color of the deli is curated purposefully to carry out the maximized visual satisfaction.
I would also question how much food is wasted to provid this experience? How many people are actually purchasing these overpriced items?
I began my research by studying the color scheme of each sections of the food hall. Are the colors coordinated to complement each other? Does each section have a unique color scheme? Just by looking at the color scheme, can you tell what food the section is offering?
I also looked at the patterns that appeared in food hall. The stacked and layered food are creating interesting shapes and unified look.
Finally, I created a map sketch of the space and layed out the images I took according to where each section is located. I also thought of using the color scheme as a visual language to communicated/ represent each section.
